2021 Marketing Doctor Rewind

What a year for Marketing Doctor! We welcomed five new superstars to our team, revealed our updated branding and new website, introduced our DEI Committee, received several incredible awards, and so much more! With loads to review and reflect upon, we decided to rewind the tape and zoom in on the many highlights of 2021.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

This year marked the beginning of our DEI Committee. We worked together to:

  • set quarterly growth and learning goals
  • facilitate mindful, thoughtful, and candid conversations
  • establish a weekly book club for shared learning and discussion
  • and identify the tangible, meaningful ways that we could make our office inclusive and welcoming for everyone.

We are so grateful to 2021’s DEI Committee co-leaders, who led the team to accomplish the following DEI goals:

  • Read and discussed Ijeoma Olou’s So You Want To Talk About Race 
  • Participated in a DEI Marginalized Groups workshop
  • Learned from Dr. Sean Huddleston, President of Martin University, and a decades-long professional in the diversity, equity, and inclusion space
  • Completed an anti-discrimination workshop
  • Updated signage on office bathrooms to be gender inclusive
  • Added pronouns to staff email signatures
  • Watched a training called “What Not to Say” led by Liz Nead, Diversity Speaker and Researcher

We know that progress is an everyday practice, and we are actively setting our 2022 goals. We look forward to continuing our DEI learning, goals, and actions in the new year and beyond!

Continuing Education & Travel

Curiosity keeps us ahead of the curve! In 2021, members of our team traveled (safely) across the nation to participate in the top conferences within their specialties. We value staying up-to-date on best practices and learning industry-leading insights from our professional peers.

Marketing Doctor’s $30k Advertising Campaign Contest

Doing well by doing good. Our President and Founder, Janet Casey, exemplified this mantra when she created a $30k Advertising Campaign Contest to support a local, diverse business impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Guided by the winner’s goals, the Marketing Doctor team planned to develop and implement a comprehensive, customized campaign complete with a thorough media plan, media placements and creative consulting. Leveraging our award-winning media planning and buying expertise (and unparalleled enthusiasm), Marketing Doctor sought to increase brand awareness and sales for the winning organization.

Local business leaders reviewed applications, met with finalists virtually, and chose a winner. On October 15th 2021, Marketing Doctor announced Holyoke Sporting Goods, a local, woman-owned business, as the winner of the $30k Advertising Campaign Contest. Thanks to generous support from additional media sources–WWLP TV22, iHeartRadio, and Stand Out Truck–the approximate value of the contest increased to $40k.

Since October 15th, our team has worked closely with Betsy Frey, owner of Holyoke Sporting Goods, in the Pre-Launch Design and Implementation phase of the campaign. Be sure to check out our Campaign News blog for exciting campaign developments.

We are thrilled to collaborate with such a beloved, long-standing local business, and look forward to being a part of Holyoke Sporting Goods’ growth as the new year unfolds!

Holiday Spirit

At Marketing Doctor we embrace the work hard, play hard mindset–we take holidays, birthdays, and any opportunity for celebration seriously.

On February 14th, we showed love for our teammates in celebration of “Palentine’s” Day. We used heart-shaped sticky notes to share thoughtful notes of appreciation with our pals. At the end of the day, we  assembled a huge heart made out of Palentine’s Day notes in the conference room. There’s nothing quite like working with a team you love!

The office channeled the luck of the Irish on St. Patrick’s Day by searching for shamrocks, enjoying baked potatoes, and sharing how lucky we are to work together!

April showers bring… EGG HUNTS! We went from sweet to silly when Janet and the Casey kids hid color-coded eggs around the office for each department. If you know Marketing Doctor, you know how competitive we get. We had a blast finding eggs with fun prizes like free coffee coupons and “early end of day” passes for Fridays.

Early May was all about the office Mom Squad. After an especially difficult year for parents, we were really glad to show our appreciation for Marketing Doctor’s Mom Squad with a Mother’s Day brunch filled with treats, stories, and gratitude.

Is there anything more “Father’s Day” than a cookout? A big thank you to Peter Casey, Janet’s husband, for grilling for the team (and for the dad jokes, of course).

Things got spooky in October during the infamous Marketing Doctor “Halloweek”. From superheroes to Oz, the week was packed with scary levels of spirit, candy and creativity.

The Marketing Doctor team turned “Iron Chef” for Worksgiving. There were no less than three crockpots simmering away in the office kitchen! Gratitude is a daily practice at our office, and what better way to show it than with delicious home-cooked food?

December brought merry mystery to the Marketing Doctor office, as we kicked off the holiday season with our annual Secret Santa. The office was steeped in festive spirit with two weeks of clues building up to the big Secret Santa reveal!

We even got the chance to spread cheer through the gift of giving.  The Marketing Doctor elves were back in action for the Franklin County Department of Children and Families, shopping for toys to donate to families in need and helping with gift-wrapping as well!

Career Development and Growth

We are beyond happy to have five new superstars on the Marketing Doctor team! In the spirit of growth, we also introduced our Mentorship Program to facilitate a smooth transition for new employees into our unique and valuable culture.

Each new team member is paired with a Department Mentor as well as a Company Mentor (someone from another department). The Mentorship Program benefits both mentee and mentor; the mentee gains career development tools and uncovers their potential, and the mentors enhance their coaching skills and renew enthusiasm for leadership roles!

Our internship program welcomes students to the agency throughout the year. Our interns become members of our team, acquiring real-world skills that help them thrive in future jobs.

This summer, we welcomed interns from UMass Amherst, University of New Hampshire, and Brown University. They spearheaded projects independently and collaboratively for our Digital and Traditional Media, Client Services, and Sales Departments. Many of our interns stay with us for multiple semesters, and we cannot overstate how lucky we are to have them onboard!

Career development and continuing education are integral to who we are as an agency.

Vision Day

In September Marketing Doctor held a formal Vision Day off-site. Each department shared their  goals for the coming years—we dreamed all the way to 2026! As a team, we explored and refined our motivators, core values, and mission with heart and spirit.

At Marketing Doctor, our staff’s personal hopes and dreams are important to us all! After a staff survey, we kicked-off the first of many Hopes & Dreams Events where we learn about navigating big life goals–like best practices in securing your first mortgage and home!
